OVERVIEW
Support students’ academic development. Establish and maintain accurate student records to ensure efficient progress toward degree completion. Support recruitment and retention efforts of the University. Develop and implement advising processes for continuous improvement. Advise, empower and support students as they develop, plan and implement their educational goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Participate in the planning and execution of the advising and course selection process to ensure each student is on track to meeting degree requirements.
● Provide academic advising primarily to sophomore, junior, senior, and external/internal transfer student cohorts within the Reh School of Business. This student population generally ranges between 200 – 215 students
● Support incoming students and their parents as they transition into Clarkson.
● Educate and inform students regarding the academic advising process
● Work closely with Student Administrative Services to ensure accurate student record keeping, academic plans, degree progress and ensure information is up to date on PeopleSoft.
● Evaluate and process student and departmental and university requests such as add/drop, change of major, readmission. Update student academic files to ensure accuracy and proper matriculation.
● Meet with at-risk students as necessary to monitor their progress, create an academic plan, and implement appropriate strategies to improve their academic situation.
● Work with faculty and refer students to university support services such as the Student Success Center, the Counseling Center, AccessABILITY Services,The International Center, the Writing Center, the Career Center, and Student Administrative Services (SAS) as necessary.
● Work closely with the Career Center to enhance student job search, employer relations, study abroad partner relations, as well as student use of Career Center resources.
● Assist students in planning for an international educational experience.
● Interview and assist prospective internal and external transfer students to evaluate academic records and progress toward program requirements.
● Participate in relationship management with prospective students and their families, alumni, corporate recruiters and others.
● Create and deliver program correspondence.
● Annually update and coordinate publication of the Reh School student handbook.
● Participate in the annual update of the undergraduate catalog.
● Assist the Faculty Advisors with the business honor societies in identifying potential candidate lists for induction and provide help with the coordination of annual induction ceremonies.
● Meet with undecided students and advise them of educational opportunities as needed.
● Oversee senior graduation and audit process.
● Present or provide necessary support at various university events such as Visit Day, Open House, Orientation, Family Weekend, Graduation ceremonies, and Recognition Day.
● Conduct audits of student records and collect pertinent information to support accreditation efforts. Prepare summaries for inclusion in external validation reports.
● Examine academic trends and implement appropriate programming and/or processes to continuously improve services.
● Assume increased responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of the office as necessary.
● Perform other duties incidental to the work described herein.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field or 5 years of directly related experience in undergraduate student advising.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in a related field.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Experience:
Five years of experience with progressive responsibility in a business or educational setting that demands independent judgment.
Preferred Experience:
Five years of experience working with PeopleSoft.

● Strong interpersonal, customer service, communication and listening skills.
● Ability to understand the needs of college students.
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
● Competency using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and an ability to learn other software as required.
● Ability to problem solve and implement solutions.
● Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and adhere to FERPA regulations.
● Must possess sensitivity for student and faculty issues.
