SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Air Quality Program Manager, the Air Quality Technician is responsible for collection, tabulation, and dissemination of greenhouse gas (GHG) air emissions inventory. This role involves coordinating with multiple stakeholders, conducting thorough analysis and identification of greenhouse gas emissions, and developing actionable strategies to reduce emissions in Akwesasne. The Environmental Technician position will be completing climate action plans that the air program will implement with future funding.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:


  • Collection, tabulation, and dissemination of air emissions inventory data
  • Review of emission inventory submissions from licensed facilities
  • Review of various emissions inventory compilations and modelled data
  • Emission factor research
  • Determination and display of outliers and trends, statistical analysis, control charting, and data visualization
  • Develop and utilize quality assurance project plans to ensure accurate collection and analysis of emissions data.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively orally and in writing
  • Prepare a Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP)
  • Collaborate with relevant programs and departments to identify and quantify GHG reduction measures, analyzing their potential benefits and ensure alignment with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Strategic Plan
  • Conduct thorough review of the authority to implement the identified measures, ensuring alignment with regulatory and sovereign status requirements.
  • Prepare a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP)
  • Prepare a final report on emissions findings.
  • Travel may be required with this position.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisor requirements for this position,


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Technical writing skills are essential to this position along with a strong background in data analysis and the management of large data sets. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A minimum of a 2-year degree with 2 years’ experience. in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering. Consideration will be given to an equivalent, relevant combination of education/experience in the Environmental field.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have excellent computer skills including word, excel, and experience with varying databases as well as software.


  • Climate Science - A solid understanding of climate change science, including the causes, impacts, and trends of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as knowledge of climate modeling and projections.

  • Emissions Inventory Methods - Knowledge of methodologies for conducting greenhouse gas emissions inventories, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Critical thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Monitoring — Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Data Visualization - Skill in creating compelling and informative data visualizations, such as graphs, charts, and maps, to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Project Management - Knowledge of project management principles, including setting goals, developing work plans, monitoring progress, and managing project budgets.
  • Community Engagement - Demonstrate ability to engage with community stakeholders, including tribal leaders, residents, local businesses, and relevant program.
  • Innovation and Adaptability - Willingness to explore innovative approaches to climate action and adapt strategies based on changing circumstances, emerging technologies, and new research findings.

Must be at least 18 years of age, have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.


Must pass a drug test and criminal background check prior to employment.
